Print Story Booyah Bitches, BOOYAH
After 2 years in the working world and six months in my new job...I am getting my first raise.

My boss said that I am doing a great job, getting great feedback and he can't believe that how well I get along with IT guy. I'm apparently the only non-manager type from outside of IT allowed to go and ask him a question at any time.

I guess the tight shirts help. j/k Not really. It's more that my quest for people to think of me as a "WWW expert" has paid off and what I say gets paid attention to and I could cause pain.

So to get me a raise, my boss has to give me a six month "review" in order to make the case to the See Eff Ooo. My boss is hoping it will be half now and the other half at my one year anniversary.

He also noted that I am getting paid better than most of the people in my department. Heh. (Although, they aren't technical and I am underpaid for an IT like position.)

Woo hoo.

So that is the good news.  Other news will be enumerated in a hole entry.

And I'm pleased about the news about plan b being sold OTC.

I can now aspire to be the dirty slut I've always wanted to be.

Not that trick. 1/2 now 1/2 later.  Except when later comes, you're told the 1/2 then shouldn't have been handed out and oh yeah there's a pay freeze, so 1/2 now is on hold until now+layoffs+90 days.

Ack, sorry, flashbacks.  carry on.

not really by yankeehack (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Aug 24, 2006 at 10:32:45 PM EST
this was totally unexpected and early to boot.

When I started, I was told that I'd get a review in a year, and that "I'd be taken care of" in terms of a raise.

Why can't companies lay down something solid.

you do ok 1%
you do better 2%
you bring in lotsa money at least 5%

'Being taken care of' means to me 10% raise.  To employers, maybe 3%.  I'd rather be told the (potential) raises ahead of time, that way there is no unrealistic expectations and ultimate disappointment.

Novemeber is my annual review.  I think I deserve 6%.  Standard rate appears to be 2%.

The owner of the company I work at is good to us by lm (4.00 / 1) #11 Fri Aug 25, 2006 at 07:11:20 AM EST
He assigns everybody a percentage on an annual basis based on how hard he perceives them to have worked the year before. That percentage is of gross profits. It gets paid on a monthly basis. In August we get our percentage of the gross profits from July.

This has the effect of having almost everyone keenly interested in maximizing their effort. The better the company does, the better we all do.

what if you have a month of hard  dedicated work but no correlating increase in gross profits?
